Two similar German silver candlesticks
One, mark of Christian Lieberkühn the Younger, Berlin, circa 1747, the other, mark of Christian Friedrich Müller, Potsdam, circa 1750
Each on spreading octagonal base with domed centre, with baluster knop above, the lower section of the octagonal baluster stem with ribs at the angles, the upper section engraved with FR monogram on foliate scroll with Royal Prussian crown above for King Frederick the Great, the vase-shaped socket with fitted octagonal nozzle, the bases variously engraved with weights, marked underneath bases

Lot Essay

Candlesticks from Burg Hohenzollern were exhibited at Munich, Kunsthalle der Hypo-Kulturstiftung, Friedrich der Grosse: Sammler und Mäzer, 28 November 1992-28 February 1993.

A further five candlesticks, similarly engraved, by Christian Lieberkühn the Younger, are currently on public display at Charlottenburg Palace, Berlin.
