While it is not known exactly why the service was commissioned, as it reproduces both the style and the monogram of King Frederick the Great it is thought possible that it was made to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the King's birthday, which would have been 24th January, 1912. Of flared drawn trumpet form, the fluted bowls enriched in raised gilding with FR monograms with Prussian Royal crown above as borne by King Frederick the Great within an oval cartouche flanked by military trophies and flags, the bases of the bowls and the stems with air inclusions, the hexagonal-section stems cut with scale pattern, the underside of the feet star-cut
