Lot Essay

The little known menuisier Pillot was based in Nîmes. He advertised his business as '...vend toutes sortes de meubles, fauteuils à l'anglaise en médaillon, ...lits à la turque, ottomane, sofa...à Nismes, prés le Marché, no. 106...' (see P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Française du XVIIIe Siècle Française, Paris, 1998, p. 654). He specialised in the distinctive form of fluted legs seen on this suite.
