An Okitenugui Kabuto [Helmet-Shaped Like a Cloth Cap]
Edo Period (17th-18th Century)
The russet-iron bowl of good shape, the cap-plate in two pieces joined along the centre ridge with five large zaboshi [rivets with fluted washers] at the front joining it to the vertical plates and lozenge-shaped plates covering the joins at the sides, to the front simple applied eyebrows above an almost horizontal peak above which is a maedate [forecrest] of a simple gilt hollyhock leaf in front of a closed crescent moon, the shikoro [neck-guard] of small rounded form black lacquered and laced with dark blue spaced lacing, small fukigaeshi [turnbacks] pierced with a plum blossom in negative silhouette
