Two 5-line ornamented initials in silver, red and yellow, smaller fine red Lombard initials, paragraph marks in red, capital strokes in yellow, ruled in brown ink. A few contemporary quire signatures and catchwords preserved. (Small hole to fol. 2/6 catching 4 letters, 9 leaves with small marginal repairs, a few insignificant marginal perforations, slight spotting and soiling to first leaf.) 19th-century French brown calf, sides panelled in blind with gold-tooled fleurons at angles, spine with gold-tooled coat-of-arms and fleurons, morocco lettering-piece, gilt edges, by Ottmann-Duplanil (joints starting, extremities rubbed): Provenance: 'D. M. Nicolao ?Sa-enracensi Misonne' (16th-century inscription on fol. 10/3r) -- effaced inscription of a college on first page -- Ned J. Nakles (sale Christie's New York, 17 April 2000, lot 163).
Fourth Parisian edition. In this copy at least four different French paper stocks were used (watermarks: anchor, crowned letters ?ip?, letter p, and jug). Sheets 4/5.6, 8/1.12, 8/2.11, 8/3.10 and 8/5.8 are chancery folio full sheets; sheets 7/4.9, 7/5.8, 7/6.7, and 8/4.9 are imperial octavo half sheets; the remainder are median quarto half sheets.
