Lot Essay

The arms appear to be that of John Purnell of Stancombe, Wickselm and Dursley, granted in 1768, (see J.W. Papworth, Ordinary of Arms (1977) p. 829) however the bezel is probably 17th century, C.f. A. B. Chadour.op. cit. (1994) p.244 no.793.
