A mid-19th century gold "Queen's" brooch and earrings by West & Son, Dublin,
the hollow stamped and reduced version of an early 9th century A.D. Irish ring brooch marked on the reverse West & Son, College Green, Dublin, Fec't, Registered Decr. 17th 1849; and a pair of matching drop earrings with animal mask tops and drops, stamped signature, all pieces also marked T.W 18.

Lot Essay

Known as the "Queen's" brooch after a copy of the original found in Co. Cavan was presented to Queen Victoria. The original is now in the National Museum of Ireland, Dublin. Copies of the brooch were exhibited by West & Son at the Great Exhibition 1851.
