Early morning river landscape

In 1880 the young architecture student Edvard Munch decides to dedicate his life to painting. Soon he is invited to contribute to several exhibitions and his talent is recognised by influential art critics. The present lot is a clear example of his natural talent. His attempt to capture the characteristics of his native country evidently shows this talent.

The authenticity of the present lot was confirmed by Arne Eggum of the Munch-Museet, Oslo in a letter on 31 July 1986.
