Lot Essay

The present highly worked watercolour appears to be a study for 'Summer Storm near Pulborough, Sussex' (Art Gallery of South Australia, Adelaide, circa 1851), which was once in the collection of the Rt. Hon. Lord Joicey. (see R. Lister, op.cit. no. 500), 'Landscape with Windmill, Figures and Cattle' (Victoria and Albert Museum, London), which depicts a similar view with the windmill in reverse, may also be based on the present watercolour.
