with self-winding lever movement, silvered dial with applied baton markers, luminous gilt hands, centre seconds, date aperture, case with screw down winding crown, screw back, gold machined bezel, case, movement and dial signed, 35mm.

Lot Essay

This model is known as the Big Bubble Back and was the first steel and gold Datejust. It was made until 1954 when it was replaced by the Ref:6075. Very few examples have appeared at auction, Christie's sold two examples in the "Ravenborg Collection" of Rolex watches, 30th September 1997, Lots 279 & 280.
