An Austrian silver-gilt and enamel horn
Unmarked, late 19th century, probably Vienna
On spool shaped base and with winged grotesque monster stem, the horn with grotesque-mask terminal, the neck with mount engraved with foliate scrolls, with lobes above lip with scrolls, the base painted with classical figures, the horn painted with the scene of Europa and Zeus disguised as a bull together with an allegorical figure of Justice, the goddess Ceres, Cupid and Hercules, the lip painted with a putto and two nymphs
