A Baltic parcel-gilt tankard
Mark of Johann Seliger, Reval, late 17th century
Cylindrical and on three ball feet cast and chased with pomegranates, fruit and flowers and with foliage panels above with two Bacchic putti, the double scroll handle with fruit thumbpiece, the hinged slightly domed cover inset with a circular cartouche chased with a scene of Cupid bearing a basket of flowers to a seated Venus, all within a border of demi-putti, their outstretched arms supporting ribbon-tied floral trophies, the interior with central rosette, marked on base
