Mark of Hans Schollar, Leipzig, 1659-1661
Tapering cylindrical, on three ball feet, the body deeply repoussée and chased with putti, scrolls and flowers in a rocky landscape, and set with two teardop-shaped turquoises, three gemstones, and four banded agate cameos, the first a bust of a woman in Elizabethan attire, the second a gentleman similarly dressed, the third a scene of Venus and dolphin drawn chariot, with two sea-creatures at her feet, the fourth a scene of supplicants kneeling before a throned dignitary, the cover with crimped border, similarly chased and set with three gemstones and four turquoise stones, with foliate and ball finial, marked on base, the gemstones foil-backed
