Cylindrical and on three ball feet, the scroll handle with heart-shaped terminal, the thumbpiece formed as a lion rampant supporting a shield cast and engraved with the Royal arms, with slightly domed hinged cover, the body and cover inset overall with sixty-eight coins each relating to the reign of the Roman Emperor during the Roman occupation of Britain or to the King of England, each engraved above with the name of the ruler and his year of accession, two inscriptions without the corresponding coin, the base with inscription, marked on base and cover

The inscription reads, THIS TANKARD WEIGHING OZ 54 WAS MADE TO RECEIVE 63 COINS OF ENGLISH HISTORY.
