Standing in samabhanga on a shaped base, his right hand in abhayamudra, the left stretched downwards and holding tip of garment which covers both shoulders and with pleated borders, his face with accentuated eyebrows above slit eyes, aquiline nose, smiling lips, elongated earlobes, curled hairdress and usnisha, the latter with lotus bud, inside of both feet reveals a partly corroded iron armature, green patina, traces of black lacquer

Lot Essay

This bronze Buddha has been examined by Mr. W. J. Lustenhouwer of the Laboratory of Microanalysis, Faculty of Earth Sciences, Free University of Amsterdam. Although strongly cleaned, small particles of culprit were found which need at least sixty to eighty years to develop. As consequence this bronze figure can be safely dated to the 12th to 13th century.
