A Sino-Tibetan embellished gilt bronze model of Tara
16th century
cast seated in lalitasana on a double-lotus base with tightly beaded bands, her right hand in varada and her left hand in vitarka mudra with her arms flanked by two lotus stalks, her right foot resting upon a padma cushion, wearing a dhoti incised with foliate designs and adorned with elaborate necklaces, armlets bracelets and anklets inlaid with various hardstones, her face with downcast eyes centered by a turquoise inset urna, her hair arranged in a chignon surmounted by a jewelled headdress -- 4½in. (11.4cm.) high (inlay with losses).
