An archaic bronze wine beaker (Gu)
Shang Dynasty
its flaring upper section cast with slender cicada lappets, above a narrow central section cast with taotie divided by shallow flanges above cruciform apertures, and spreading lower section with larger taotie on a liewen reserve, irregular malachite patination -- 10 7/8in. (27.7cm.), (crack to rim).
