A shadow agate snuff bottle
19th century
of irregular rounded rectangular shape, carved through honey brown inclusions to the semi-translucent grey stone with a scholar seated beneath a pine tree with a bat to one side and a seated lady with head lowered and hand raised pointing at a kneeling boy to the other, coral stopper -- 2¼in. (5.6cm.) high; a further shadow agate snuff bottle of rounded rectangular form, carved in medium relief from a clay-coloured inclusion with a phoenix among foliage, the stone of greyish semi-translucent colour, coral stopper -- 1 7/8in. (4.8cm.) high (minor chips).
