A domed needlework casket, the hinged lid enclosing a well, worked in coloured silks with a seated lady playing a lute by a fountain, the upper section with birds, animals and flowers including a parrot, lion, squirrel, deer, rabbit, iris, snowdrop and a violet, the front doors worked with two raised work ladies and four flowers, opening to reveal various compartments, the back with two warriors and two ladies playing a lyre and a lute, possibly muses, one side with a man and a cat seated by a furnace, bellows and various equipment lying on the ground, possibly representing an alchemist and on the other a man pruning trees--11½in. (29cm.) high, 9½in. (24cm.) wide and 6½in. (16½cm.) deep, on wooden feet, on a plinth and in a glass case
