A miniature sampler, worked in green and pink silks with alphabets and numerals, the initials M.P. and the date No 10 1843, within a Greek key border--5¾ x 4¾in. (14.5 x 12cm.), framed and glazed; and two notebooks, one inscribed Miss Sarah Palmer November 1845, with various jottings and sketches, some very proficient including one of a gnarled oak tree inscribed Knole Park Uncle W 1846 and with an accompanying poem I am indeed an Oak of Old, the other Mary Palmer Sevenoaks with similar sketches and verses by Uncle W (3)

Lot Essay

The reverse of the sampler is inscribed Mary Palmer nice (sic) of Jane Edwards, 10 yrs old

Mary Palmer was the niece of Ann and Jane Edwards. Presumably 'Uncle W' was William Edwards 1791-1855.
