The bay of Naples by moonlight

Aivasovsky is probably the most famous 19th Century Russian maritime painter. This lot is very much in Aivazovsky's style and is imbued with the romantic aura found in all his works.
There is a similar work to this in the state gallery in Seodosia in the eastern Crimea.
