The serpentine canted rectangular top with flowerhead-carved edge enclosing a green leather-lined playing-surface, above a mahogany-lined frieze drawer with later divisions, on hexagonal-section tapering legs carved with elongated quatrefoils and flowerheads, on foliate-wrapped feet, previously with castors, the handles replaced

Lot Essay

The simplified construction and addition of recessed elongated quatrefoil panels relates to the work in Chippendale's style of the Wakefield firm of Wright and Elwick, as visible on several of the lots in the Wentworth sale at Christie's, 8 July 1998, including the great cabinet, lot 35.
