Lot Essay
Joel Arthur Rosenthal, referred to as JAR, is arguably the most gifted creator of the present generation. He has been compared to Faberge, as well as Cartier and Lalique, and like those great jeweller's before him, his sense of beauty and style allows him to stand apart.
What defines JAR's work are his superior craftsmanship, evocative of the quality of jewels of the 18th and 19th Centuries; his bold sense of proportion, often resulting in comparatively sculptural creations; his propensity for incorporating unusual gemstones into his pieces, often creating a vivid sense of movement and light; and his chosen palette of bold, rich colour combinations.
"The Jewels of JAR, Paris", an exhibition celebrating 25 years of spectacular creativity by JAR, will showcase 400 extraordinary works of art and will be held at Somerset House in London from 2 November 2002 through 22 January 2003.
The following three lots are fine examples of his work - the attention to detail, the originality of design and the use of colour.
