A LOUIS XV GOLD AND IVORY BONBONNIÈRE WITH MINIATURE AND SECRET MECHANISM
by Joseph-Etienne Blerzy (fl. 1768-1808), marked, Paris, 1769/1770, with the charge and discharge marks of Julien Alaterre 1768-1774
Circular gold-lined ivory box, the independent cover centred by a glazed oval portrait miniature of a lady in lace-bordered pink and black dress with matching feathered hat, her high-piled grey-powdered hair dressed in rolls, framed by a fluted and bright-cut gold mount with concealed hinge in the ribbon-tie surmount, the miniature springing open by pressure of a stud concealed in the side gold mounts (secret mechanism momentarily out of order), the sides of the base applied with gold laurel swags hung from studs, the gold mounts stamped with a shell and studs band divided by foliate rosettes and bordered by pierced stylized acanthus leaves
