A RARE REGENCY ENAMELLED GOLD AND CORAL CHILD'S RATTLE, TEETHER AND WHISTLE
by John Ray & James Montague (fl. post-1800) marked, London, 1815/1816, with the English duty mark for gold 1798-1821, the London assay office mark 1756-1821 and the English post-1798 standard mark for 18-carat gold and the English standard mark for 18-carat gold 1798-1974
Crooked reddish coral branch handle, the circular matted gold shaft engraved with drapery festoons with scalloped lower border, the rectangular body with canted corners inset with four opalescent enamel plaques painted with flowers and landscapes on an engine-turned ground, the canted corners set with gold guilloché bands and hung with four jingle bells, the tubular matted gold finial chased with bows and swags and engraved with foliate initials 'GJ' and fitted with a whistle; in fitted original red morocco case
