Elisabeth of Bourbon, Princess of France, called Madame Elisabeth, was the youngest sister of Kings Louis XVI, Louis XVIII and Charles X. It turned out impossible to find her a matching spouse of adequate rank. At the outbreak of the French Revolution, she refused to emigrate with her brothers the comte de Provence and the comte d'Artois and thus followed her brother Louis XVI and her sister-in-law Marie-Antoinette to the guillotine.
