A SWISS ENAMELLED GOLD SNUFF-BOX FOR THE ORIENTAL MARKET
Geneva, circa 1830, with an 18-carat gold mark and maker's mark 'IC' a crown above, probably for Joly & Chenevard
Oval box, the cover and base centred by scalloped reserves painted en plein with lakeside landscapes with ships, against an opalescent semi-translucent enamelled wavy guillocheé ground within fluted gold and white enamel borders, with scalloped turquoise green outer border enclosing flowerheads alternating with leaves, the sides enamelled with four similar lakeside scenes on an engine-turned ground divided by blue enamelled pilasters centred by translucent brown enamelled palmettes, bright-cut gold rims
