A CONTINENTAL RENAISSANCE-REVIVAL JEWELLED, SPLIT-PEARL SET AND ENAMELLED SILVER-GILT AND HARDSTONE BOWL
probably Austro-Hungarian, circa 1880/1900
Tapering semi-translucent rose quartz bowl flanked by two silver-gilt handles shaped as herms of classical warriors with red and green gem set scrolling bases, the upper silver-gilt mounts of the bowl cast as stylized laurel and applied with two facing floral rosettes set with split-pearls as petals surrounding a red gem centre, peridot-set leaves, the spreading convex foot enamelled in translucent green champlevé with leaves and brown pine cones and tied by opaque white enamelled ribbons, the bowl fastened to the silver-gilt mounts by pierced stylized acanthus leaf borders
