TURIN. Charles A. Klug, artist. Autograph manuscript journal signed (with intials) entitled 'The Turin Illustrated News', Vol.1, comprising 26 weekly numbers, Saturday 11 August 1866 - Saturday 2 February 1867, illustrated with approximately 123 pencil drawings, comprising landscapes, scenes of military and political events, caricatures and humorous scenes of Italian life, 52 leaves, folio, roan-backed boards (worn).
The illustrations include a number of dramatic contemporary events of the Risorgimento, including the battle of Ladrona, the storming of Fort Rocchetta, 'Wounded Garibaldians in the Church at Anfo', 'Arrival of the 26th regiment of foot, in Turin', 'The King reviewing the troops in Castle square, Turin', and others. The variable quality of the drawings suggest that some may be copies from contemporary publications.
