Second edition of Widnmann's catalogue of the plants depicted in the Hortus Eystettensis, giving the name of each plant as it is identified in the original engraving, its common German equivalent, and its modern scientific nomenclature according to the Linnean system. It was first published in Nuremberg the previous year; this Eichstätt edition contains a dedication in French to the Empress Josephine, an index giving the French common names as well. Widnmann writes in his introduction that he hopes his catalogue increases the utility of the Hortus Eystettensis, a work remarkable for the elegance and size of its illustrations and which belongs in every library and collection of natural history books. Widnmann's index was inserted in copies of the 1713-50 edition of the Hortus Eystettensis which were still being offered for sale at the beginning of the 19th century.
