Lot Essay

Albert H. Potter (1836-1908) was one of the greatest watchmakers of the second half of the 19th century. Born in upstate New York, he would move to Geneva in 1875, where he would work to develop more efficient escapements, compensation balances and mechanisms to the intrigue of his clientele and colleagues. Only a few hundred of his watches are in existence, and they are rarely offered publicly. Examples with split second chronograph and flying 1/4ths are extremely rare.
