A Flemish mythological game park tapestry
Second half 16th Century, possibly Audenarde
Woven in wools and silks, depicting an Arcadian mythological scene with a maiden with an entourage in pursuit of two lions and followed by a man holding a staff with Diana seated in her chariot drawn by two stags and accompanied by satyrs to the top, in the background a maid being rescued by a soldier from a lion in the left background within a floral border with fruit and vases and with cherubs to the angles, stencilled number to the back 32, reduced in height to the bottom and alterations to the lower border, reweaving and patching throughout
