A 20th-Century lacquered-brass precision balance,
signed on the beam and on the base L. Oertling, London, with wire pointer for the beam scale 10-0-10, aluminium pans, screw-adjusted ivory pan supports, brass index to read off the ivorine scale, and twin bubble levels, contained in a glazed mahogany case with two drawers with ivory pulls, containing a cased set of brass gramme weights by Oertling, raised on three adjustable screw feet with brass pads -- 16½in. (42cm.) wide; and another precision balance, signed by WILH.H.F. KUHLMANN HAMBURG, the beam scale with wire pointer and magnifier, the index arm arranged to read off an ivorine scale viewed in a concave mirror, contained in a glazed oak case with a maker's plaque for Kuhlmann and two adjustable screw feet -- 14 5/8in. (37.1cm.) wide
