An extremely fine 24-inch (61cm.) diameter celestial table globe made up of two sets of twelve printed and particularly finely hand-coloured gores and two polar calottes, the richness of the colour achieved through the building of several layers of paint, after the celestial gores of Vincenzo Coronelli, the equatorial, tropic and polar circles, equinoctial and solstitial colures all graduated in degrees, the ecliptic graduated in degrees, one cartouche in the northern hemisphere and three in the southern, all with text in Italian save one which is blank, the constellations depicted by superlative engravings of mythical beasts, figures and objects and labelled in varying combinations of Italian, French, Latin, Arabic and Greek, some outlining the details of the major stars therein, the UME ERIDANO, ò PO and the FIUME GIORDANO depicted as wide green rivers with bankside flora, the stars variously labelled, with further details such as Cometa osservata ' Danzica d' Hevelio dalli 20 Dece. Del 1652. Sino li 7 Gen. Del 1653. and other notes regarding comets, the stars picked out in gilt paint, the wooden meridian with hand-coloured manuscript circle divided in four quadrants, the hand-coloured horizon ring showing degrees of altitude and azimuth, days of the houses of the Zodiac with sigils, names and decorative pictorial representations, the Gregorian and Ecclesiastical calendars shown, with dominical letters, every day with a historical note in Italian and the appropriate year, many of cartographical interest, and showing the old and new names of sixteen winds, on a fine polychrome wooden 18th-century stand, the horizon supported by four baluster turned legs to a shaped base with meridian support, on four bun feet -- 41in.
