An early 18th-Century lacquered brass horizontal sundial,
signed Butterfield AParis, the baseplate engraved with foliate decorations in the centre and four corners and engraved Pour 48 and Degrez 50 mi, the dial engraved with Roman numerals from XII-IIII and I-VIII, the glazed compass box secured by two screws showing the cardinal points, the blued-iron needle with brass cap, the sprung gnomon with foliate decoration --5 1/8in. (13cm.) square
