A 19th-Century lacquered-brass mining dial,
signed on the compass face T.B. WINTER & SON, Newcastle on Tyne, with two bubble levels, the gimballed compass with eight points and edge-bar needle, the inner scale graduated in quadrants 0-90°-0-90°, the outer scale 0-360° with vernier, the compass case with aperture and vernier to read off the main scale, and a sighting quadrant graduated 90°-0-90° with index, the main frame with two folding sights and two A-frame supports for telescope (missing), on a tripod mounting with four adjustable screw feet -- 13¾in. (34.9cm.) wide
