A 19th-Century an oxidised and lacquered-brass transit theodolite,
by JAMES LUCKING & Co., LEEDS, the 11in. (28cm.) long telescope with rack and pinion focusing and spider's web fine adjustment, dust cap and ray shade for the objective lens, with detachable extension tube, and graduated bubble level, the 5½in. (14cm.) diameter vertical circle with scale, graduated bubble level, twin magnifiers, the horizontal circle with silvered scale, twin verniers and magnifiers, clamp and screw fine adjustment, with glazed compass with four points and 0-360° scale around the circumference, with tripod mounting, on a splayed tripod foot with clamp and three fine screw adjustable feet, with spare tripod mounting and string and plummet, contained in a fitted mahogany case with ivorine makers plaque reading JAMES LUCKING & CO Opticians 37, BOND STREET LEEDS -- 14 5/8in.
