A 19th-Century lacquered-brass theodolite,
signed Cary London, the 10½in. (26.6cm.) long telescope with rack and pinion focusing to the objective and bubble level, the adjustable arc with twin verniers for Diff. of Hypo. & Base ranging from 30-1-30 and Perp. in 100ths of Base ranging from 100-0-100, with magnifier, the horizontal circle with silvered scale 0-360° and two verniers 0-30°, the glazed compass with eight points and edge-bar needle, the circumference of the compass with two scales 90°-0-90°-0 and 0-360°, two further bubble levels, on a tripod or staff mounting with screw adjustment, with two eyepieces, contained in a fitted mahogany case -- 14¼in. (36.2cm.) long
