A LUCANIAN RED-FIGURED BELL-KRATER
Attributed to the Anabates Painter, Circa 380 B.C.
The obverse with a symposium, depicting Paris and Helen reclining on a kline, Helen wearing a himation wrapped around her lower body, a pendant necklace and a dotted fillet, her feet resting on a foot-stool, gazing at Paris who reaches toward her, also wearing a mantle and wreath, Eros flying above, crowning Helen with a laurel wreath, Aphrodite standing to the left, wearing a chiton and a mantle that is pulled up as a veil, bracelets and a crown, holding a dotted sash before her, an Ionic column at the far right; the reverse with three draped youths, the central figure with a staff, jumping weights above; stopt meander and saltire-squares below the scenes, a band of laurel under the rim, fanning palmettes with scrolling tendrils below the handles
