A ROMAN MARBLE PORTRAIT HEAD OF A MAN
Circa Mid to Late 3rd Century A.D.
From the period of the soldier emperors, his head turned slightly to his right, wearing a close-cropped military-style haircut which has a widow's peak at the center and recedes at the temples, the strands of hair roughly picked, his forehead furrowed, his bushy eyebrows rendered by angled striations, the heavy-lidded eyes gazing up and to his right, the pupils drilled, his nose framed by deep naso-labial folds, the thin mustache incised, the lips tightly pursed, the short beard delineated by long incised strokes
