THREE EARLY JEWISH TERRACOTTA OIL LAMPS
Roman to Byzantine Period, Circa 3rd-6th Century A.D.
One with a triangular projecting handle and a rounded nozzle, circa 6th century A.D., the large fill-hole at the center of the lamp surrounded by a wide border molded with geometric decoration, including two seven-branched menorot toward the nozzle, branches projecting downward from the stem; one handle-less with a fan-shaped nozzle, circa 3rd-4th century A.D., the entire center of the lamp open as a fill-hole, the wide border surrounding the fill-hole molded with a seven-branched menorah on a tripod base, two large palm fronds and several concentric rings; and a fragmentary lamp, circa 4th-5th century A.D., the discus molded with a nine-branched menorah, the stand with five legs, with a fill-hole on either side of the stand, bordered on each side with a band of rays, a workshop signature on the underside of a three-leafed blossom
