A GREEK GOLD AND CARNELIAN FINGER RING
Early Classical Period, Circa Mid 5th Century B.C.
The plain flat hoop expanding to a lozenge on the underside, each end with perforated disk terminals, with a carnelian scaraboid framed by a bezel and joined to the hoop by a plain wire which passes through the stone's perforation and the terminals and coils around the hoop, the scaraboid engraved with a profile head of a bearded Herakles wearing the Nemean lion-skin, his club positioned above, but partially obscured by the bezel
