Solid cast, the hoop oval in section, expanding at the shoulders to the oval bezel, which is set with an onyx cameo depicting a detailed head of an eagle in profile to the right, the plumage finely incised, a band on its neck inscribed (possibly added later), SPQR, (Senatus Populusque Romanus), the Senate and People of Rome
1 in. (2.5 cm) wide; ring size 8½
