A ROMAN GOLD AND NICOLO TWO-PART FINGER RING
Circa 3rd Century A.D.
Solid cast, roughly hexagonal in side view, with pronounced angular shoulders ornamented with a leaf in high relief enhanced by incised scrolling and stippling, one side of the hoop with a separately-cast ring designed to fit into a compartment of the main ring, which is nearly invisible when the two sections are together, traces of an iron pin which once secured the two sections, the oval bezel set with a nicolo ring stone engraved with a standing draped figure of Fortuna holding a cornucopia and a ship's rudder, her head surmounted by a kalathos, on a short groundline, a star and crescent in the field
