The slightly flaring rounded arms with openwork (opus interrasile) ornament, each framed by a heavy wire, triangular in section, the center with a lotus-form raised ring of beaded wire and two prongs originally set with a stone, glass or pearl bead, a grooved suspension loop above with a granule where it joins the upper arm

The use of the lotus at the center of this cross, symbolic of the rebirth of Christ, derives from ancient Egyptian iconography, as the lotus was considered the birthplace of the sun god.
