A PERSIAN KINDJAL
Dated 1282 A.H 1865-6 A.D.
With broad tapering double-edged blade with three fullers on each side, the forte with gold-damascened panels containing Persian verses, and stamped twice on the front side with a mark, 'work of Abduhu', the tip of the blade with a gold-damascened palmette on each side, characteristic hilt with iron mounts decorated with gilt foliage and running scrollwork and with dark horn grips (slightly damaged), and original silver-mounted wooden scabbard covered with red leather and burgundy velvet, the locket set with two small turquoises (a third missing) and chased with the Arabic inscription 'With the help of Allah victory is near', the chape with a Persian religious invocation, the gold-damascened band below the locket bearing a leather strap with engraved silver mounts
