A SCOTTISH BASKET-HILTED BACKSWORD
Second quarter of the 18th Century
With associated tapering blade double-edged towards the point and with a single fuller along the back-edge on each side, each face stamped with the mark of Samuel Harvey, iron guard of slender bars involving 'S's' (perhaps for Stirling) and fretted incised panels pierced with circles and stylised hearts, fluted pommel, and shagreen-covered spirally fluted grip bound with silver wire, in later leather scabbard (iron parts with scattered surface pitting)
