A GERMAN COMPOSITE BASKET-HILTED BROADSWORD (TESACK)
Late 16th Century
With straight tapering blade with a single fuller on each side of the forte, one with traces of an inscription, symmetrical iron guard of slender bars rounded at the front and chiselled with foliage at the intersections, above a side-ring at the front and back, the former enclosing a smaller ring, the latter linked to a thumb-ring and a slender counter-guard, straight quillons with chiselled swelling tips, mushroom-shaped 'mulberry' pommel, and wire-bound grip (worn and surface pitted)
