A FINE SWEPT-HILT RAPIER
Late 16th Century
With slender tapering blade with two full-length fullers and raised central rib on each side, the fluted ricasso struck on each side with a pair of half moon marks and two pairs of Toledo marks, iron hilt with guard of flattened bars pierced and chiselled with a chain-link design on the edges and mulberries in the centre, single diagonally downcurved quillon pierced with a quatrefoil at its tip, arms, the tips linked on the outside by a side-ring, diagonal S-shaped outer bar linked to the centre of the knuckle-guard, inner trifurcated guard of plain slender bars, flattened pommel en suite with the main bars, and spirally fluted wire-bound grip
