Lot Essay

The castle at the top of the breast-plate is likely to be the mark of the maker, or the workshop where it was produced. Similar marks appear on a number of etched Milanese elements, armours, and even garnitures. For futher information see Donald J. LaRocca, 'A notable group of late sixteenth-century etched Italian armour', J.A.A.S., vol. XVI, no. 4 (March 2000), pp. 191-195, plates 8-10
